  • What if I have Hip or Knee replacements / pain or Foot Problems?

Usually joint problems arise from weakness of the muscles that traverse the joint. That situation lets for example the knee become unstable and you will disrupt the inner tissues of the knee such as the cartilage especially during stairs. The osteoarthritis itself is not a disease - it is just a consequence of years of muscle weakness. The Wellness Belt strengthens those muscles and can often totally eliminate the pain and the progression of the arthritis.

If you have a history of painful knee or foot problems such as from osteoarthritis, or joint replacements, it may be necessary to start by wearing a Wellness Belt only an hour or two per day or possibly even less. For individuals with a history of those types of conditions, we recommend that you do this for a week or two before gradually increasing the time worn. By gradually increasing the wearing time over several weeks, you are giving your leg muscles time to strengthen in response to the extra load produced by the belt. This will gradually stabilize your joints and possibly remove your pain.

If you experience increased pain, you may be wearing the Wellness Belt too much for the current condition of your body each day. In that case we recommend that you reduce the time worn to a level that your body can tolerate. Some individuals may not be able to wear the extra weight 24/7, so you may need to experiment to determine the optimal amount of wearing time for your body. Here is an example and this approach will very likely help you to get past the knee pain forever...

In this discussion I'm talking about the time you wear the belt while you are on your feet.

Note how much time it took to make the knee flare up.

After you knee settles down, which should only require a few hours or perhaps one day, do this:

In your situation, you might only be able to handle 1 1/2 hours per day, maybe more. You can start low and each day add 1/2 hour until the day the knee flares. Then you know how much is too much.

So you let it settle down again for a day.

Then start wearing it for 1/2 hour LESS than the time you wore it when you made it flare the day before.

Keep it at that amount of time for a week.

Add 1/2 hour every week until eventually you can wear it full time.

If you go to fast, you will flare it again so you might have to up the time every week and a half or 2 weeks.

This has worked for an awful lot of people.

    Hope it helps,

    Dr. Craig

  • Are there any conditions where you recommend against using the Wellness Belt?
    • Pregnancy – but new mothers will use the Wellness Belt post-partum to regain their former figures!
    • Severe advanced osteoporosis such that adding the weight of the belt would put them at risk of hip fracture. Our test is if the individual can carry 10 pounds of groceries, they should be OK. If you or they have any serious concerns tell them to check with their doctor.
    • Inability to ambulate – obviously if a person can’t walk, they can not get the benefits.

We recommend careful monitoring or delayed usage in the following situations:

    • Acute episode of back pain – note however that in some cases the product can be quite helpful
    • Arthritic knees, hips, feet – usually the wearer can begin by using the Wellness Belt for a short period daily (say …15 minutes or so) then gradually increase the time worn as their bodies respond and muscles around joints strengthen from wearing the Wellness Belt. They usually find that the knee pain disappears over time as the knees stabilize.
    • Recent knee & hip replacements – to reduce the rehab time – again start using for a brief period and gradually increase
    • People using walkers or canes due to muscle weakness – again start using for a brief period and gradually increase
  • What is the best way to put on and take off the Wellness Belt?

Here's how to put your belt on & off ... notice that the belt NEVER hangs full out ... it is important not to make the belt hang full out as it can stretch the belt.

    1. Fold the belt in half
    2. Grab the belt in the middle, balancing it in your right hand.
    3. Put both hands behind your back and pass one end of the belt to your left hand. Let your right hand slide up to the leather end.
    4. Holding both ends with the belt behind you, swing the middle of the belt up against your body at the top of your buttocks.
    5. Bring your hands in towards your tummy, holding the belt tight against your back, thread the belt thru the buckle and tighten it up.
    6. Check to see if the gap in the leather is in the center of your back.

To remove, undo it, hold the ends in both hands, and pass one end to your other hand behind your back so one hand has both ends - you are now holding the belt in one hand, folded in half.

There is option "B" if you find that too difficult ...

    1. Open the belt on a bed, parallel to the side about a foot or two from the edge.
    2. Sit on the side of the bed between the belt and the side of the bed.
Then lie down, on top of the open belt.
    3. Then do up the belt.
    4. Sit.
    5. Stand.

To remove the belt, sit on a bed and undo the buckle, letting the belt rest on the bed.

  • Should I put my Wellness Weighted Belt through my belt loops?

Rather than putting your weighted belt through the belt loops, many of our customers say that they prefer to wear their weighted belt on top of (superficial to) a normal belt. The normal belt is put through the belt loops to hold up the pants. Then our weighted belt product is simply placed on the normal belt, so the normal belt is hidden under the weighted belt. Our customers have pointed out that wearing the Wellness Belt over a normal belt has several advantages. It takes less effort than putting the weighted belt through the pant's belt loops. And for those who prefer sitting without wearing the weighted belt, it can easily be removed and put back on when desired. This is also helpful when visiting the washroom. Wellness Belt wearers report that it is more convenient to be able to simply remove the weighted belt from outside the belt loops prior to a washroom visit.

  • What is the best way to store my weighted belt when I'm not wearing it?

The best way to store the weighted belt when unused is to lay it flat. Hanging is not recommended, as the material will stretch due to the weight in the belt. It may also cause an internal block to move out of position. If that happens, simply manipulate it back into position manually.

  • Will the belt cause discomfort during extended sitting?

Rare reports during times of extended sitting, such as driving, mild lower back pain may result due to the pressure of the weighted belt against the back. However many people with chronic back pain report completely removed pain when going from the sitting to standing position. So you simply need to try and see what your body's response will be.

  • As I lose inches, will I have to buy a belt every so often, or are they adjustable?

A belt varies by 6 inches from between the end holes. If you are like our other users who have experienced fat loss, and you lose 6” because of the Wellness Belt, you may find that you will be very happy to purchase a smaller one:-)

Our measuring procedure is designed to start you off in the 1st or 2nd outtermost hole so you can lose 5" or 6" before the belt becomes too large for you.

However, our belt shortening service is available for those who have become too small for their Wellness Belt. Simply send your Wellness Belt to our factory at 166 Saunders Rd, Unit #2, Barrie, Ontario Canada L4N 9A4 and let us know how many inches you would like removed. The fee for this service is $29.95.

For American customers, please make sure that you clearly specify in your shipping documents that you are returning an item for repair, and specify a value of $15 or less, otherwise the Canadian Customs service will be looking for duty and taxes as if it were a sale transaction.

Very important ... anyone sending a belt to us my USPS or Canada post must tell them to get us to sign for the package when we receive it. Otherwise they do not deliver it to us and you will probably get it returned back to you.

It is very difficult to estimate how long it will take an adjustment to lose x number of inches because there are simply too many factors to take into account: the individual's persistence, the daily time worn, the activities performed, the condition of the individual, and so on. What we do know is that overweight individuals who wear the Wellness Belt for 30 hours a week on their feet will experience significant loss of weight and inches.

Most Wellness Belt wearers will gain muscle mass while losing fat. Some people actually lose inches and gain weight! Why? Simply, muscle is much denser than fat. If you consider it, you may realize that your focus should probably be on inches lost rather than pounds lost.

  • How do I clean & Maintain my weighted belt?

Avoid chemical cleaners, just use a damp cloth and air dry.
